Barbara Newman is an established author, critic and feature writer on dance.

She has published two volumes of interviews with prominent dancers: her first book Striking a Balance, and more recently Never Far From Dancing. Amongst other books on dance and dancers, she is the author of The Illustrated Book of Ballet Stories, a triple-award winner that has been translated into many languages, and reissued in a special audio-CD edition with an introduction by Darcey Bussell.

A native New Yorker but now based in London, she is the dance critic for Country Life magazine and reports on all forms of musical theatre for the Dancing Times. She has appeared on BBC radio and written for many international periodicals and reference works.
