Misha Ewen is Lecturer in American History at the University of Sussex and a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society. Since gaining her PhD from UCL, she has held positions at the universities of Kent, Manchester and Bristol, and worked as the Curator for Inclusive History at Historic Royal Palaces.

Misha researches the role of women in the origins of the British Empire, how these histories are entangled with her own personal family history, and their continued legacies today. She has published widely on the histories of women, colonialism, and empire in the early modern British Atlantic World. Her academic monograph The Virginia Venture: American Colonization and English Society, 1580-1660 was published by Penn in 2022 and was shortlisted for the Royal Historical Society’s Gladstone Prize. Misha has also made appearances on TV and radio, including BBC Radio 4's You're Dead to Me and Channel 5's Inside the Tower of London, and has consulted on the histories of British colonialism and slavery with leading organisations such as the National Trust, The Guardian, and AQA.

Born and bred in Manchester, Misha now lives in Sussex with her husband and dog. Her trade debut, Imperial Ties: An Intimate History of Women and the British Empire, was pre-empted on proposal by Picador UK.
